Starting their second unit, Grade 5A began their lesson with a surprise delivery of popcorn! Excited to have a treat, learners were eager to engage and get their hands on a delicious snack. Fifth Graders picked a number out of a hat and were instructed to take turns, in order, to “Take as much as you need”. Each learner helped themselves and waited patiently until everyone had their turn, which ultimately resulted in an empty bowl. After answering some questions, learners quickly realized that if we don’t take care of our non-renewable energy resources, future generations will suffer. This provocation has set the tone for this new unit based on renewable energy!
